Over the past couple of years Greg Smith MP has a particular focus on improving access to minimally invasive cancer therapies across the UK. Greg is chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Minimally Invasive Cancer Therapies and last year the group held a detailed inquiry, culminating in a report that found that even when potentially lifesaving cancer therapies have been approved, patients are failing to routinely access them, leading to a postcode lottery of services available.
Last week Greg was pleased to attend a parliamentary drop-in event, where they heard from patients, patient groups, clinicians and the life sciences industry on the benefits of these innovative solutions, the current barriers to access and how they may be overcome to benefit patients.
Greg has since written to Health Ministers and the National Clinicial Director for Cancer at NHS England, asking them to meet with the APPG to discuss the findings of the report and how we can ensure patients have access to the information and care they need.
