Flooding has been a huge issue across many parts of the constituency over the weekend and in recent weeks. Some of that is HS2 construction related and in other parts its down to drainage systems. Over the weekend Greg saw for himself the flooding and issues in Marsh Gibbon, Twyford, Poundon, Charndon and across to Calvert and Calvert Green. This morning he visited Ickford that was cut off altogether yesterday. Part of the problem is the Thames Water pumping station being overwhelmed and still not upgraded (despite promises to do so over two years ago) and part the level of development further overwhelming the drainage in the village. Greg will be onto Thames Water once again this afternoon and likewise the Environment Agency and DEFRA. A key lesson that must be learnt - in particular by the Planning Inspectorate - is that building on floodplains and expecting it to be all ok is just nuts. Greg will be once more raising this with Ministers.
