Earlier today the Transport Secretary set out the Integrated Rail Plan. Much of it very sensible moves to improve rail connectivity within the Midlands and Northern England. Included, however, was the scrapping of part of the eastern leg of HS2. Greg put it to Grant Shapps that given the business case for the whole of HS2 was ropey at best, that the loss of a leg surely now means it is time to scrap the whole miserable thing and spend the money on further regional rail improvements instead. A disappointing answer, but Greg will never give up hope and keep fighting to scrap HS2.
