Todays inflation figures are good news, but the tax burden is still biting. Fiscal drag is hurting many individuals and families across the country, so at Prime Minister's Questions today, Greg Smith MP called on Rishi Sunak to prioritise restoring fairness in tax thresholds. Higher rate income tax was never meant to capture people like Police Sergeants, Band 8 nurses, teachers with additional responsibilities and others on good but still modest incomes. Greg wants to see tax thresholds increased, to ensure only those on genuinely high salaries, among the highest earners, pay tax at the 40% rate.
