Buckingham MP Greg Smith has received reports of the Padbury Brook through Steeple Claydon and Twyford having been emptied of water over the past few days. It is understandable that, with HS2’s intense operations in the area, local people are deeply concerned at the possibility that site personnel may have siphoned off water from the Brook for use in their own compounds - a frankly appalling act that cannot go unchecked, like so many of HS2’s environmentally destructive activities in North Buckinghamshire. This not only threatens wildlife dependent on the Brook itself, but also the wider local ecosystem that is centred around Calvert Jubilee Nature Reserve, a site which has already been hit hard by HS2.
Greg has urgently escalated this to HS2’s project managers and to local construction teams, as well as to the Environment Agency and the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. Greg is grateful to the local residents and ward councillors who’ve alerted him water to this deeply distressing situation.
