This afternoon Greg Smith MP personally showed Rail Minister How Merriman MP the damage to roads from HS2 and East West Rail construction vehicles.
Commenting, Greg said, "When I questioned Rail Minister Huw Merriman MP at the Transport Select Committee last week, particularly on the state of our local roads that have been damaged by HS2 and East West Rail, he committed to driving round to see for himself whilst in the area.
"I met with Huw on Saturday afternoon and personally showed him roads around Steeple Claydon, Padbury, Verney Junction, Sandhill and Middle Claydon.
"He categorically agreed that the state of the roads were unacceptable.
"The Minister has committed to taking his findings back to the Department for Transport, HS2 Ltd and East West Rail in order to find a solution in conjunction with Buckinghamshire Council.
"We also agreed to convene a meeting as soon as possible between all those parties to finally agree a plan.
"I am grateful to Huw for taking the time to do this when he was not formally “on duty” but in Buckinghamshire on a social visit.
"That said, I don’t think I am breaking any confidences in saying I am restless at raising these issues, everyone agreeing there is a problem, but those with the power and resources to fix it then not following through.
"I do have confidence in Huw, not least because of his time as Chairman of the Transport Select Committee.
"Most of all I will not give up on this."
