For over a year Greg Smith MP has been working with local community groups to establish a pioneering new medical facility for Long Crendon. Greg has held regular discussions with Unity Health, the Clinical Commissioning Group, 'Save our Surgery' (SOS) and Long Crendon Parish Council.
The local council have made great progress in securing the planning permission and beginning the construction phase, but they require a meaningful financial contribution from external sources. At the public meeting organised by the SOS Group, Greg committed to lobbying at the very heart of Government for funding. Having shared the business case with the Minister for Health and his team he has continued to call for funding in recent months.
This Morning Greg had an opportunity to raise the issue in the Chamber of the House of Commons. The Minister agreed to continue working with me and asked that we continue to work with the local NHS teams.
It is not unusual for it to take considerable time to secure funding for individual projects from Government departments, but Greg will continue to make the case with increasing persistence.
The Minister referred to Greg's attempts to secure funding for Long Crendon as "prescient and tenacious". Greg commented, "Let me assure you I will continue to be both to try and secure funding for this unique facility."
