This morning Greg Smith MP was advised of an appalling case whereby an asylum seeker under investigation for a criminal offence has been transferred to the former Best Western in Buckingham, but absconded.
Commenting, Greg said, "I have both privately and publicly raised this with ministers in the House of Commons, demanding every resource possible is put into finding this individual and getting them into secure accommodation whilst the investigation and any subsequent trial is conducted.
"I continue to be furious at the use of the Best Western as an asylum hostel, both from the impact that had on the staff who lost their jobs, and the pressure on local services.
"It is more vital than ever that those entering our country illegally are processed quickly, and where found to have no legitimate asylum case, deported.
"Likewise, I continue to push for urgent legislation to undo the ability for the European Court of Human Rights to have any say over our Rwanda Partnership, and therefore get those entering the UK illegally to Rwanda."
