At the Department of Culture Media and Sport Topical Questions earlier, Greg Smith MP pressed the Sport Minister, Stuart Andrew MP, to work with him and colleagues in the Treasury to ensure the use of synthetic and sustainable fuels in motorsport is incentivised in the tax system.
Motorsport is a huge British success story, both in terms of competitive sport and contribution to our economy and technological innovation. We see that right here in the Buckingham constituency, with Silverstone Circuit and multiple Motorsport Valley businesses.
From Formula 1 committing to 100% sustainable fuels from 2026; to two 1929 Bentley’s running on synthetic fuel only at Goodwood a fortnight ago; and Finmere based Steller Motorsport using Total's biofuel in their GT3 Le Mans cup entry; this clean revolution is real: but for it to be widely adopted the barrier of cost needs addressing so motorsport teams at all tiers of the sport are not reliant on the cheaper fossil fuel status quo.
