This afternoon (8th June 2021) Greg questioned Health Secretary Matt Hancock over the backlog of people diagnosed with cancer awaiting their first treatment.
The charity Macmillan Cancer Support estimates that because of the pandemic, some 39,000 people across England are waiting for their first cancer treatment, with 51 estimated to be waiting in Buckingham.
Greg was encouraged by the answer the Health Secretary gave, not least the additional funding for the NHS to get through the backlog. Nevertheless, it is vital that no one diagnosed with a cancer is left waiting - as we all know cancers need to be both diagnosed and treated as early as possible. The Buckingham MP equally endorses Matt Hancocks plea for anyone worried about a cancer symptom, or any other health worry, to come forward and see their doctor. The pandemic has had a huge impact on our NHS and the hardworking staff within it, but they are open - and it is vital that anyone concerned about their health seeks the medical care they need.
