Buckingham MP Greg Smith spoke in a general debate on the Covid-19 pandemic in the House of Commons today (22nd October 2020).
Greg's speech, time limited to 4 minutes due to the number of MPs wanting to speak in the debate, focused on the need for the government to develop a "plan B" in the event of a vaccine not materialising or taking much longer than expected.
During the speech, Greg highlights some specific cases of local people's difficulties during the Covid-19 restrictions, which have had a huge negative impact on their lives.
Greg stressed that Covid-19 is a horrendous disease and sensible steps must be taken to tackle the spread of the virus. Likewise that we must all hope and pray that the scientists developing the various vaccine trials succeed in their heroic endeavours. But he also argued that restrictions cannot go on forever and there was an urgent need for the government to develop a "Plan B" with scientists and other experts in case the much needed vaccine does not come good.
