With no major hospital in the Buckingham constituency, Buckingham constituents depend on hospital services at Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe, Milton Keynes, the JR, Watford and others.
Recently Stoke Mandeville has received funding for a new children's A&E and as part of a major announcement on new hospitals today, it was fantastic to hear funding confirmed for a brand new Women and Children’s Hospital for Milton Keynes and a new hospital at Watford.
Following the Health Secretary's Statement, in which he announced five new hospitals to replace ones built with Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), Greg Smith MP highlighted the case of Wycombe Hospital which whilst not suffering from RAAC construction, the tower does need over £80 million in maintenance and Buckinghamshire NHS Healthcare Trust has plans for a £200 million new purpose built planned care centre - which would bring all their theatres together, with ICU, Endoscopy and support services, enabling them to see more patients more quickly, helping to clear the elective backlog and providing a better experience for patients and staff. To make this a reality national spending is required and Greg asked the Health Secretary for hope that Bucks patients could soon benefit from such a facility.
