The rumour mills are turning with reports that HS2 could be scrapped north of Birmingham. That would be good news for communities in the north who will be spared the misery we endure in Buckinghamshire from Phase One of HS2, but as Greg Smith MP put to the Minister in the Commons just now, we can't afford Phase One either and what's left will be a useless stump of a railway that doesn't actually go anywhere useful, so we should scrap the whole thing instead.
