Today marks the 60th anniversary of Coronation Street being on our television screens. An incredible achievement for all who have been part of this British television success both in front and behind the camera.
Greg said: "A little confession - I am a massive fan. It was a show always on in my household growing up, and I watch it to this day, often on my iPad on the train on my way back to Buckinghamshire after long days in Westminster.
"It has been a particularly pleasure to have visited the Corrie set, old and new, multiple times over recent years, seeing cast and crew at work.
"Corrie is not just entertainment - although it has provided plenty of entertainment, laugh out loud moments, comedy gold and sheer joy over the years for millions of viewers every single week. Soaps play a vital role in raising awareness of serious issues and breaking taboos. Recent plot lines have raised awareness of mitochondrial disease, coercive control, domestic abuse and loan sharks. A story that struck home with me focused on Sepsis, a disease few knew anything about until a few years ago. I was privileged to do some work with the UK Sepsis Trust in my former career and the Jack Webster story really helped educate people about Sepsis and its consequences.
"Last week I took the opportunity to take part in an adjournment debate to celebrate Corrie's 60th Anniversary. A fun debate that acted as an hour of stress relief from the many other difficult issues we are grappling with in Westminster at the moment.
"Happy birthday Corrie, here's to another 60 years."
