Greg Smith MP has called for the 2021 British Grand Prix at Silverstone to be included in the governments Events Research Programme to enable a capacity crowd at the event.
Commenting, Greg said: "Formula 1 and motorsport in general is a huge passion of mine. Having roughly half of Silverstone Circuit in my constituency is an enormous honour and privilege. The British Grand Prix weekend is the UKs largest annual sporting event, with 140,000 attendance. It contributes over £100 million to the local economy and is the beating heart of motorsport valley which supports 40,000 British jobs. Put simply, the British Grand Prix alone, not to mention the countless other events like the Classic and MotoGP at Silverstone, is an economic powerhouse.
"So I took the opportunity in the House of Commons earlier as Minister Nigel Huddleston was answering questions on the Events Research Programme, to call for the British Grand Prix to be fully included in the programme as a full capacity spectator event. British motorsport needs this, our local economy needs this -- and after such a long time under restrictions and lockdowns, the fans need this."
