Yesterday (3rd February 2022), Greg Smith MP challenged the new Rail Minister Wendy Morton MP on what the first trains on East West Rail will be powered by.
Greg said: "The suggestion that East West Rail will launch with borrowed diesel trains is deeply disappointing. It had been my previous understanding that the railway would launch with bi-mode trains allowing for battery running through residential areas, with a commitment to placing clean hydrogen trains on the railway in the future. I put this to the new Rail Minister, Wendy Morton MP, yesterday at Transport Questions and will continue to push for East West Rail to launch with bi-mode."
