This morning Greg visited Safran Electrical and Power systems, an Aerospace components manufacturer, in Pitstone, this morning.
Safran has a really long history in aviation and is one of the world’s leaders in aircraft electrical systems. The company pioneered and specialised in electrical generators for Aircraft; they invent, design, develop, manufacture and service these products in their factory and have product on Airbus ( A320 – A380 ), Boeing, Leonardo, Lockheed BAES and many other air framers platforms.
In the last 5 years, Safran has been developing primary electric propulsion motors, partnering with their sister company in France who specialise in power electronics. This range of product has now attracted funding to industrialise this product in the UK to meet the needs of hybridisation and electrification of the Aerospace industry.
Greg said, "It is fantastic that Buckinghamshire is home to some of the cutting-edge research and development in the aerospace industry. We have an incredible aerospace industry right here in the UK that defines the way aircraft are manufactured globally.
"These are challenging but also exciting times for the sector; but the work Safran are doing brings with it real opportunities to secure market share, high skilled jobs and inward investment. The UK aviation sector is exploring all avenues to ensure the benefits of flying are protected for future generations, while developing new technologies to cut emissions. I will continue to push the Government to do everything it can to unleash potential in this area."
