Earlier today Greg Smith MP spent time with Swish Fibre discussing their rollout of fibre broadband to households across the constituency and seeing recently completed work by them on Page Hill in Buckingham and ongoing installation works in Maids Moreton.
Commenting, Greg said, “One of the biggest issues raised with me across the constituency is broadband connectivity and it is pleasing to see firms like Swish (and others) installing gigabit connections at pace. With demands on broadband increasing all the time - from holding down reliable Zoom calls, transferring large work files, whilst the kids try to stream Minions in ultra high definition - gigabit connectivity is truly transformational. Personally speaking, I know a gigabit connection will make a huge difference to my household when one of the providers make it to Chearsley.
“There is still some way to go, especially in many of our villages, but Swish Fibre alone are now 80% of the way through their installations in the town of Buckingham, with in excess of 15,000 households across the Buckingham constituency able to receive their gigabit broadband services. I will keep pushing to ensure all households in the constituency are able to get fast, reliable broadband at home from at least one provider.
“Of course I do also understand that there is considerable disruption when broadband is installed in an area and a big topic of discussion was relaying a number of residents’ concerns about construction works, especially when multiple providers arrive in an area in relatively quick succession, all digging separate trenches. We discussed the need for operators - whilst separate commercial enterprises - to work together where it is at all possible.”
