Recent strikes have massively disrupted people's lives and at times risked safety and life itself. The Government has a duty to the public to ensure their safety, protect their access to vital public services, and help them go about their daily lives. The Government will always protect the ability to strike, but it must be balanced with the public’s right to life and livelihoods.
That’s why today the Government announced it will introduce new laws to ensure a basic level of service in some of our most crucial sectors when industrial action takes place.
Greg Smith MP welcomes these proportionate measures and following the Secretary of State's Statement, asked him to ensure children's ability to use the railways to get to school, as many in Buckinghamshire do, is locked into the minimum service levels going forward.
