Today Greg Smith MP used a session of the Transport Select Committee this week to press once again the new Rail Minister, Huw Merriman MP, to finally take action on what everyone on the ground agrees - the roads are broken, dangerous and unacceptable and HS2 Ltd and East West Rail must fix it.
Commenting, Greg said, "I have received a number of queries from concerned residents and businesses about the ever-worsening state of the roads in and around HS2 and East West Rail construction areas.
"I drive those same roads all the time - indeed the clever technology in my Land Rover even sometimes believes the car to be driving off road when driving along them!
"The issue is also not new to me - indeed I have been working with local Councillors and Buckinghamshire Council as a whole for a very long time to try and find a proper resolution to the situation.
"The cause of the issue is the damage done - albeit accepting the roads were not perfect in the first place - from the enormous volume of construction vehicles associated with High Speed 2 and East West Rail, as well as house builders in the area. Our roads simply were not built for thousands of HGV movements and it is no wonder the surfaces have crumbled, edges fallen in on themselves and verges become so damaged.
"I have personally brought Ministers, HS2 executives, the HS2 Residents Commissioner, the HS2 Construction Commissioner and the East West Rail Chief Executive to the area and personally driven them round and walked sections of our roads to show them the damage.
"I will not give up on getting our roads properly repaired by those who have broken them."
