Earlier today the Health Secretary set out a new Urgent and Emergency Care plan, spending over £1 billion over the next two years to create 5,000 more hospital beds, as well as 800 new ambulances on the roads.
To expedite discharge and increase hospital capacity further the government are also adopting a culture of innovation in the NHS, with £1.6 billion in new measures such as 'virtual wards' that will enable up to 50,000 patients a month to be safely monitored from the comfort of their own home.
In total, this government is providing £14.1 billion in additional health and social care funding over the next two years to bust the Covid backlogs and cut waiting lists.
On the specific issue of the additional ambulances, following the Statement Greg called on the Health Secretary to prioritise rural areas for additional ambulances - not least because of the geography of Buckinghamshire, ambulances spend much longer per patient than their urban counterparts.
