This afternoon Greg Smith MP was pleased to meet with Parish Councillors and trustees of the charity Wingrave with Rowsham Sports & Leisure to hear about plans to build new pavilions for sports on the recreation ground.
The Wingrave recreation ground was gifted to the village by the Rothschild's in the 1920's and villagers have been playing football on the recreation ground since the 1890's. The bowls club have an equally long tenure, approaching their 100th anniversary, coupled with recent croquet club who have been playing for the past 10 years.
The current two buildings - a clubhouse on the bowling green and a pavilion on the football pitch are well beyond their natural life and need replacing.
The village already have an significant amount of funding committed to the project to replace both buildings to keep sport on the recreation ground for decades to come and having seen the impressive plans Greg will be supporting their efforts to raise the rest of the cash from various grant gifting bodies and government grants.
